Ebico is one of the UK's oldest small energy brands. It was set up in 1998 as the UK's first not-for-profit energy supplier, with a focus on reinvesting money into communities and tackling fuel poverty rather than paying it out to shareholders.
Over the years, Ebico has supplied energy through a series of partner suppliers rather than holding its own supply operation, and that model has led to several big changes for its customers. If you were an Ebico customer, or you are wondering what happened to it, this page explains where things stand.
Ebico doesn't currently appear to offer any gas and electricity tariffs. Its partnership with Octopus Energy ended in April 2025, and Rebel Energy, which supplied its most recent tariff, stopped trading the same month. Ebico continues its work on fuel poverty and affordable home warmth through Ebico Trust and Ebico Innovation.

Ebico has never run its own supply licence in recent years. Instead, it sold energy under its own brand while a licensed partner supplied the gas and electricity and looked after customer accounts. When those partnerships ended, Ebico's customers moved on with them.

If you were moved to a new supplier and never chose a tariff, you are probably on its standard variable tariff. That rate sits at the Ofgem price cap, which is the maximum a supplier can charge, not necessarily the cheapest deal available to you. It is worth comparing, and there is no exit fee on a standard variable tariff.

Not at the moment, as far as we can tell. Ebico stepped back from supplying energy through its Octopus partnership in April 2025, and Rebel Energy, which supplied its Ebico Signature plan, stopped trading the same month. We can't find any Ebico gas and electricity tariffs currently on sale.
It depends when you joined. Customers supplied through Robin Hood Energy moved to British Gas in 2020. Customers on the Ebico Signature plan, supplied by Rebel Energy, moved to British Gas in April 2025. Customers supplied through Octopus Energy were with Octopus behind the scenes. When a supplier fails and Ofgem appoints a Supplier of Last Resort, domestic credit balances are protected and carry across to the new supplier. Contact your new supplier if your balance doesn't appear on your account.
No. Ebico is an independent not-for-profit social enterprise. Between 2021 and 2025, Octopus Energy supplied the energy for Ebico's tariffs and handled customer service, but Ebico itself was never owned by Octopus.
