Ebico

One of the UK's oldest small energy suppliers, Ebico was set up as an ethical, not-for-profit energy supplier that focussed on reinventing profits back into communities - most notably tackling fuel poverty - instead of putting back into the pockets of shareholders.

Ebico was launched with the idea of offering affordable energy deals to everyone and fighting fuel poverty, and in 2009 it became the first energy supplier to put its profits into its own charity - the Ebico Trust - for which it has since raised over £1 million.

Ebico offers 100% renewable electricity and its tariffs include a fixed energy deal with no daily standing charges or exit fees. This means that if you sign up to the Ebico Zero deal, you'll only only pay for the gas and electricity you use, with no extra fees, and you can switch at any point without incurring an early exit penalty. The only stipulation of the Ebico Zero tariff is that you must use at least £52 of electricity and £104 of gas per year to qualify.

Ebico is still one of the UK's smallest energy companies - with fewer than 50 staff - and provides energy to more than 60,000 homes across the UK.

Who owns Ebico?

Ebico is a fully certified social enterprise and its licensed supply partner is Robin Hood Energy who provides both its energy and account management services.

Why switch to Ebico?

If you'd sooner have your energy supplied by an ethically sound energy company, Ebico is a not-for-profit company that reinvests profits back into its customers, with a keen focus on helping fuel-poor areas and ending fuel poverty.

Ebico also has good green credentials, supplying 100% renewable electricity, and it always scores highly where customer satisfaction is concerned.

What is Ebico’s fuel mix?

Any electricity we use is generated from a combination of different fuels such as nuclear, coal and renewable sources (wind, water and the sun). The different amounts of each fuel contributed makes up a energy supplier's fuel mix.

Here is Ebico's gas and electricity fuel mix as of April 1, 2018 to March 31, 2019:

Electricity supplied by Ebico % of total Average for GB (for comparison) % of total
Coal 0.6% 5.2%
Natural Gas 3.8% 41.4%
Nuclear 1.1% 18.7%
Renewable 94.3% 32.8%
Other 0.2% 1.9%
Total 100% 100%
