E.ON is the new name for Powergen. As of December 2007, Powergen became E.ON, one of the UK's leading energy companies. E.ON is involved in the generation and distribution of electricity, and in retailing electricity and gas to millions of homes and businesses across the country. E.ON employs over 12,000 people in the UK and its retail business has around 5 million electricity and gas customer accounts. E.ON also offers a range of home energy services, including boiler and central heating installation, maintenance and insurance.
In the UK, E.ON's generation business produces enough electricity to cater for the needs of around eight million homes from a portfolio of world-class gas, coal and oil-fired power stations.
E.ON is also one of the leading green generators in the UK, with 21 wind farms located from Cornwall to Northern Ireland. Two of its power stations burn biomass material mixed with coal and it has recently finished building the UK's largest dedicated biomass power station at Lockerbie. E.ON is currently developing one of the world's largest offshore wind farms, which will be built in UK waters, allowing it to provide more clean, green, renewable energy to customers.
E.ON Group aims to spend €3 billion between 2011 and 2013 on renewable energy and environmental activities.
E.ON aims to provide world-class customer service, its call centres are open Monday to Friday, 8am to 8pm, and on Saturdays from 8am to 6pm.
E.ON has teamed up with Age UK to meet the needs of older customers. Through this affinity partnership it offers a package of incentives including a dedicated tariff, a dedicated 24-hour helpline, and exclusive cold weather rebates for gas customers over 60.
