My Information. What do you need and why?

It is not possible to process applications for a cheaper energy supply without asking you for certain personal data. To process an application we will collect some, or all, of the following information, which we use for the purposes of forwarding your application to your chosen supplier. We will never sell your data to any third party. We will only use your data to offer you other products and services if you have given us specific permission to do so.


When searching for a deal?

To find you the best gas and electricity deals we require certain information from you. None of this information can identify you in any way. If you then choose to make an application through TheEnergyShop, we will require additional information to allow us to process your application. That information is personally identifiable. Postcode and Address

Energy prices vary depending upon where you live. From your postcode we can identify the best deals for you, at your address. With your address we can determine the metering arrangement at your property.

Why are you asking me whether I have just moved home?

If you have recently moved or are about to, you may not know who supplies the property, and how much energy has been used there in the past. By telling us, we can skip a few questions you may not know the answer to and present the best deals for your new home in a way that makes more sense to you.

My current fuel arrangement

By telling us whether you currently are on a dual fuel deal, or not, we can ask for your current suppliers in a way that makes sense to you. We also need to know this in order to correctly identify your current tariff, from which we calculate your savings.

My current supplier

This allows us to present you with the list of tariffs currently available from your existing supplier. We hope that this makes it more convenient for you to identify the name of your current tariff.

My current payment method

This allows us to present you with the list of tariffs currently available from your existing supplier for the way that you pay your bill. We hope that this makes it more convenient for you to identify the name of your current tariff.

My current tariff

From this, together with your current energy spend, we can accurately calculate your energy consumption. From your energy consumption we can calculate the best deals for you, and compare them with your current plan to identify savings.

My gas and / or electricity bill amount

From this, together with the name of your current tariff, we can accurately calculate your energy consumption. From your energy consumption we can calculate the best deals for you, and compare them with your current plan to identify savings.

My gas and / or electricity consumption in kWh

If you know this number, then we will use it to calculate the best deals for you. If you do not know it then don't worry. You can either obtain it from your current supplier, or we can calculate it from your annual bill and current tariff.

None of the above information can identify you in any way. You can search on TheEnergyShop as often as you like without ever having to tell us who you are.

Your address

We require a valid address for the property to be supplied and your billing address if this is different. Some suppliers also ask for the time you have lived at this address, and a previous address if you have spent less than 3 years at your current residence. This is done for credit checking purposes by the Supplier, we will not credit check your application.

Your name and contact information, including email address and telephone number.

We need your contact information so that we, or your new supplier, can contact you to keep you in touch with the progress of your application and in the event of any queries.

Your gas meter number.

This information is sometimes required by your new gas supplier to process your application. We will try and get this for you, but if we cannot, we may have to ask for it. Check our Guide Section to find out where to find this information

Your electricity supply number.

This information is required by your new electricity supplier to process your application. Again, we will try and get it for you, but if we are asking for it, you may need to find your bill and get it from there. Check our Guide Section to find out where to find this information

Your bank account details

We only require this information if you have chosen to pay by direct debit. The details we require include your sort code, bank account number, the name of the account holder, confirmation that you can authorise direct debit instructions, and your preferred payment date for direct debit payments.
